Ever since the release of Sonic Adventure back in 1998, many Sonic fans have hailed the adventure-style formula as the magnum opus of the Sonic franchise. Many consider the Sonic Adventure games to be one of the best Sonic games of all time and perhaps one of the best video games of all time. As time went on, many Sonic fans would create fan-made Sonic games based on the Sonic Adventure format. In fact, to this day, many Sonic fans wish that the old Sonic Adventure-style game would come back at long last.
Well, Sonic fans may have finally gotten their wish come true. According to a recent tweet from Sonic Frontiers director Morio Kishimoto, he stated that he would like to make a game based on the formula of Sonic Adventure. In his statement, he said this:
Who knows? It may not be an official statement that the franchise could return to its adventure-style roots, but it could be a strong possibility that perhaps we could see another Sonic game that uses the adventure formula with a little difference. The Sonic Adventure style of gameplay has not been used since Sonic Adventure 2 back in 2001. Sonic 06 was the closest to the formula but was critically panned by both critics and fans, and the game is infamously regarded as one of the worst Sonic games and one of the worst video games of all time. The Sonic franchise’s formula of gameplay has remained mostly the same since the release of Sonic Unleashed back in 2008. Sonic Frontiers has enjoyed a high reception that the franchise hasn’t seen in a while, since Sonic Generations back in 2011. The franchise tanked into the abyss after the failure of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric in 2014. While in 2017, Sonic Forces failed to live up to the hype after a good Sonic Mania was released a few months before,
What do you think? Could this be the revival of the Sonic franchise? Is the franchise in a new era? Will the adventure style come back after this hint? Let me know in the comment section!
