Here are some questions answered by me: If you want to ask me a question, then let me know, and I’ll answer it for you!
Q: When did you get into Anime?
A: 2011: I discovered anime in the early 2000s, specifically in 2003 during the anime TV boom of the early 2000s, and didn’t know that it was called anime until, I’d say, around late 2006. Between 2006 and 2010, I developed a liking for anime but faced some stiff competition from video games during that time period. However, anime still had an important presence during that time period. Thanks to the internet, which featured AMVs on the internet, my older brother’s strong interest for anime, fellow friends who had a strong influence on me, and watching certain anime giants like Naruto, it played a huge role for me. Then, it came to me that, toward the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, I officially cemented my love for anime, and when 2011 began, I officially declared myself an otaku, watched anime nonstop, and developed an unparalleled love for anime. Since then, it’s been nothing but non-stop anime magic for the past 12 years.
Q: When did you get into manga?
A: 2011: Similar to anime, I discovered manga in the 2000s, specifically in 2008. However, unlike anime, my discovery of manga took a bit longer. I discovered it thanks to the courtesy of my older brother and his fellow classmates during school. He and his friends showed me a weekly shonen jump issue that contained a specific manga called Rosario + Vampire, which was a sensation for my older brother and eventually for me as well. Like anime, the advancement of the internet, my older brother’s strong interest for anime, meeting friends, and strong influence from manga wowed me into oblivion. Like anime, my love for manga was simultaneously cemented towards the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. When 2011 began, I officially declared myself an otaku, read manga nonstop, and developed an unparalleled love for manga. Since then, it’s been nothing but non-stop manga magic for the past 12 years.
Q: When did you get into video games?
A: 2007: I’d argue that my history with video games is actually a bit longer and more different than that of anime and manga. I started playing video games way back in 2003 as a young kid. Unlike anime and manga, which took a while to be cemented into my life, video games were much quicker. My first console was the Sony Playstation, but the problem was that the console was already in its twilight years. The first gaming platforms that I truly played on were the original Xbox from Microsoft and the Game Boy Advance. Between 2004 and 2006, my love for video games quickly developed into something else, and the Pokemon franchise played a pivotal role during that time period. During that time, I realized that they had already become a part of my life, and by 2007, they had been cemented into it. Since then, I have played video games nonstop, and with the inclusion of anime and manga into my life in 2011, the otaku life felt complete for me. Well, almost.
Q: When did you get into toys & games?
A: 2014: My history of toys and games is pretty hilarious. They have always been around with me since, I’d say, around the same time that video games became a part of my life. The history is complex, but I’d say around 2004 and 2006, when I was getting into Yu-Gi-Oh! I used to collect Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and I loved playing them. Pokemon cards were also part of the fray. A problem, however, was that toys and games suffered from being in the shadows of video games during that time. Around 2007 and 2009, they were slightly relegated to the lowest interest in my life but still had a presence. In 2010, that completely changed with the introduction of Bakugan. The cool designs and fun game left a strong impact on me, and other franchises like Yu-Gi-Oh! were revived on the scene. Between 2011 and 2013, toys and games enjoyed a revival, and eventually they became a part of my life once again. By 2014, they were officially cemented into my life. Not through a long story, but through a realization that it always had been. The otaku cycle was complete at last.
Q: When did you get into the otaku culture?
A: 2011:
