For many otaku, this one is, Arguably, the most important and self-explanatory part of the otaku culture. Basically all media related to otaku will automatically mention the importance of merchandise. Many otakus have a label, examples are figa-ota, puramoderu-ota, and ningyo-ota, which are known as figure-otaku, plastic model-Otaku, and doll-otaku. Other known labels that involve merchandise for otakus have a name for it. What makes otaku merchandise unique is a complex history of passion, dedication, escapism, and building a collection. Non otakus will never understand.
