The third anime convention of the year was filled with an unexpected twist—one that raised my expectations even higher in an area I’m already very familiar with!
By the time I publish this article, there’s one thing I can definitely tell you: I’m already very familiar with the city of Ocala as a whole. It all started way back with Ocala Comic Con in 2023. Since then, I’ve attended at least four events there in total—and five if we’re counting repeat yearly ones. So what is this anime convention I’m talking about? Well, it’s Ocala Anime-Fest, another anime con from OurCons—the same awesome group behind Sarasota Anime-Fest, which I attended (the second one) on December 6, 2025. Held at the Hilton Hotel in Ocala, this was my second time visiting that hotel, with the previous visit being for OGPokeCards (OG Con) on August 30 of last year. Not only that, but I was also pleased to cosplay as Kaito from Vocaloid—my first brand-new cosplay since Len Kagamine’s for Sarasota Anime-Fest. So far, he’s been the best and my favorite to cosplay! I can’t wait for more cosplay in the future!
Ocala Anime-Fest 2026 came out of nowhere! Just as I was about to finalize my entire calendar for my 2026 anime convention plans in 2025, it suddenly popped up, bringing me a ton of great excitement. Hilariously, though, right after I moved my base from Ocala to Tampa, Ocala starts lighting up my otaku radar again—after a few years of barely anything happening there except Ocala Comic Con and Brick City Anime Festival (both of which I’ve already attended). Nonetheless, I was utterly pleased to learn that the Horse Capital of the World now has another anime con to check out.
Another interesting part is that this year marked the first inauguration of Ocala Anime-Fest. This anime con in Ocala is completely brand new and still so young. So just knowing that I was able to attend its very first year gives me yet another cherished memory and another personal achievement that I’m really happy to have experienced. So, how did this newcomer do? What great magic did this anime con have in store for me?
Arriving at the Hilton Hotel brought back a ton of memories. Like every trip to Ocala, this one was peaceful, but slightly different too—unlike Ocala Comic Con and Brick City Anime Festival, which were held in the beautifully remote and rural area at the World Equestrian Center, this one was in the inner part of Ocala. That gave it the typical downtown, more crowded feel, similar to what OG Con had. Perhaps the most notable moment when I arrived was seeing the lovely and adorable Pikabug once again—just like last time!

Upon entering Ocala Anime-Fest, the atmosphere and layout felt basically identical to what I remembered from OG Con. Ocala Anime-Fest had a very strong shopping-oriented display that was super pleasing to the eye. Obviously, like every con I’ve attended before, I was looking around and seeing a bunch of amazing vendors with their awesome goodies everywhere.
Now, I’m sure you’re VERY familiar with my running joke about trying to resist the temptation of buying merchandise because of my plans to save up for cosplay and anime conventions, right? Well, this time things were a bit different—I guess you could say I kinda broke the rule. But what was it for exactly? What did I buy to break my rule? Were the items that worthy? Well, let’s find out…
Like all anime cons, I got to stumble across some awesome fellow cosplayers—including two who were cosplaying as Madoka Kaname and Homura Akemi from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Now THAT is what I call an awesome photo-op! It felt like a huge honor to take photos with fellow cosplayers dressed as characters you don’t usually see much at anime conventions.

The merchandise available was beyond my expectations. While most anime cons typically have a wide variety of good merchandise, Ocala Anime-Fest’s was truly out of this world. What do I mean exactly?
You know how anime cons typically have merchandise that’s either mainstream, from recent times, or not-too-distant classics from the past? Well, this time it was different. I was shocked to see that some of the merchandise available dated as far back as 2008—and even older. There were so many figures I’ve had my eyes on for YEARS. Actually, not just years, but DECADES! In fact, the amazing amount of rare and wanted merchandise at Ocala Anime-Fest was exactly what prompted me to break my rule. I can’t wait to show you what I bought…

Remember when I took Snorlax with me to OG Con? Well, guess what? I found another one, and my first words were, “Hmm, it’s as if I remember a Snorlax being here before?”

As I continued my journey of discovering all the amazing merchandise everywhere, I decided to get a little goofy and film some silly, cringe-worthy skits of myself. Remember my epic fail sword display at Brick City Anime Festival earlier? Well, it happened again. And this time, it wasn’t just me with a sword in action—but also with a gun!

I know I keep mentioning OG Con, but guess what? Something similar happened again! I got to see a gigantic Pikachu cosplay, and I couldn’t help but take an awesome photo-op with it ASAP. This was something I wanted to do back at OG Con, but I wasn’t able to. Now I’m glad I finally did!

While I was having some great fun at Ocala Anime-Fest, unfortunately, something happened… Ocala Anime-Fest was originally supposed to have panels available, but the Hilton’s electricity wasn’t working at all. To make matters worse, almost all the panel rooms had virtually no power whatsoever. Because of this, the panels were canceled, with only the cosplay contest still going ahead. It left me devastated, but sadly, like the saying goes: “stuff happens.” At least the cosplay contest was still happening anyway—but still, those panels looked like a lot of fun…

As a consequence of the power outage, I was left feeling hot and thirsty the whole time. The feeling wasn’t pleasant at all, and I had to take some cool-down breaks and drink water just to stay energized.

Okay, my fellow otakus… This was the turning point for me… Remember when I was talking about the merchandise? Well, this was the moment I had to break my rules. While looking around the vendors, I stumbled across a figure I’ve always wanted for years—and which figure is that? None other than the Ayu Tsukimiya Key 10th Memorial Fes version. Well, it’s not my number-one most wanted, but definitely one of my most wanted. It’s not just because of the figure itself, but fun fact: Did you know that despite Kanon being my favorite anime of all time, I have yet to own any merchandise from it at all? Yep, I’m not kidding. The only thing I owned from Kanon was the original visual novel game on Steam. Nothing else—no figures, plushies, posters, or cosplay… like, literally nothing at all. Finally, on February 14, after fifteen years, that changed.
I stumbled across an amazing vendor by the name of Animix_Avenue. I am so grateful and thankful to her, because not only was she kind and offered me an incredible deal, but for the first time in my entire fifteen years as an otaku (since 2011), and outside the internet as well, I met another fellow Kanon fan and had an amazing conversation about Kanon as a whole. The feeling was sensational—it made me really happy that two like-minded people got to talk about my favorite anime of all time. This meant a lot to me since, sadly, when I tell people my favorite anime is Kanon, many either don’t know it, have to ask what it is, express lack of interest because of its age, or mistake it for something related to Clannad. These were reactions I was all used to because, well, Kanon is old… That anime will be turning 20 this year, and if you go even further back, it’s 24 years—or 27 years in total. Kanon keeps getting older, just like me. LOL! Either way, it was a joy talking to someone else who loves Kanon. Real life is a lot of fun! (Not being a basement dweller, I promise!)
So, I broke my rule and bought an Ayu Tsukimiya figure. At long last, the joy of finally owning merchandise from my favorite anime of all time was fulfilled! Wait—THERE’S MORE! That wasn’t the only thing I bought!

Take a look at my hand to the left! I bought myself a Fuwa Fuwa Sakura Hatsune Miku plush! Just like Ayu, those adorable plushies have been on my “to-buy” list for a while now. They look so cute, and I just couldn’t pass up the chance to grab one so easily and add it to my collection. I am SO glad I bought one for myself. Finally! The amazing part was that it was such a good deal… WAIT, THERE’S MORE! THAT’S NOT ALL!

There was a new mission that Kurai added for me to fulfill—basically, it was my final task of the event. The hint I’m about to give is: let’s just say this crazy, passionate Akiba-kei from Florida definitely didn’t want to see his poor Sakura Miku feeling alone. She needed siblings by her side to keep her company, so I had to accomplish my duty and complete my final mission. Of course, before that happened…
The cosplay contest finally commenced, and guess what? I once again stumbled across a fellow moot I’d met before—and it’s none other than anon_sera_layla. If you guys remember, I met her during my time at Sarasota Anime-Fest, and it was an honor meeting her again at the cosplay contest. I guess that meme about Florida not being big—meaning many cosplayers will commonly run into each other over and over to the point that we’re basically used to it—is actually true, lol. Also, I got to meet up with another fellow moot who we unknowingly already followed each other. Wow, Florida’s otaku landscape is SOMETHING ELSE!
The cosplay contest was amazing. However, once again, I pulled my toxic trait of not participating—due to that feeling of instability and not being ready yet… Either way, I do want to participate as soon as possible! The contestants were incredible, and I got to learn some vital information about conventions in Florida as a whole. I even picked up some terminology I’d never heard of before. I also learned some important lessons about cosplay—exploring both the bright side and, sadly, the dark side. Either way, I enjoyed it because, as I continue my otaku life with cosplay and anime cons, I keep learning new things along the way. I’m so glad my cosplay and event section has finally blossomed after years of staying on the sidelines…

Speaking of cosplay contest winners, guess what? One of the winners wanted to take a photo-op with me, and I felt nothing but happiness and honor getting to pose with them. It felt amazing and was truly an awesome experience. That awesome winner is pyr4m1dh34d_c4s3!

So, back to the topic of Kurai’s last mission: here I did an epic walking entrance to fulfill my final task of the event. Kurai knew it had to happen, and he made it happen—for the sake of his adorable Sakura Hatsune Miku. So, what did I do exactly?
I think it’s completely obvious now that you know what I’m up to, right? Yep, I didn’t just want the Sakura Miku plush—I wanted the original one as well. And if you remember my funny picture of me pointing at those plushies, then yep, those adorable Miku plushies have been on my radar for a while now. At the time, I was unsure if I should buy them because I wanted to save as much money as possible for cosplay and anime cons, but today was different—these are plushies I’ve always wanted. Not to mention how hard it is to buy one online. So my final task was to bring my Sakura Miku plush a sibling for home. Of course, that’s not the only part of the narrative…
Ocala Anime-Fest was coming to a close, and I rushed all the way back to see if the vendor who had the Miku plushies was still there and available. Thankfully she was, and she was such a kind and humble sweetheart—she was so nice that she dug through all her stored goods to find the Miku plushies and let me purchase them. Oh, but guess what? It wasn’t just the original one I wanted—she also had the Snow Miku version! I almost didn’t buy her, but I said, “FORGET IT,” and bought her too. That meant my Sakura Miku didn’t just have one sister, but two in total—making three Fuwa Fuwa Miku plushies altogether: the original, Snow, and Sakura versions. You couldn’t imagine the delight I felt. At last, the final mission was completed. As a courtesy and sign of respect, I took a photo-op to commemorate my purchase from this amazing sweetheart and her vendor!

My mission was done, and I couldn’t help but imagine myself doing an epic walk, feeling like: “The job’s done here!”
So, how did my merchandise look? Well, in this little quick silly skit I did, you’ll see exactly how they look. All I can say is, I’m so happy to have made these purchases—a Kanon figure at last, and three adorable Fuwa Fuwa Miku plushies. What more could I have asked for?
Well, my fellow otakus, there you have it! As my third anime convention of the year, Ocala Anime-Fest 2026—in its very first year—was an experience I honestly wasn’t expecting at all. Although I typically head into anime conventions with high expectations (and literally 99% of them turn out great), and I already knew Ocala Anime-Fest was going to rock anyway, I wasn’t prepared for some truly amazing and revolutionary moments to unfold while I was there. The shopping scene was hands-down its strongest point and my biggest highlight of the entire con. My fondest memory will definitely be purchasing those amazing goodies I bought. Not to mention the pure joy of meeting up with my fellow moots once again, which just proves how incredible and tightly connected Florida’s otaku landscape really is. Never mind the panels being canceled—at the end of the day, the fun stuff still happened, I got to enjoy an awesome cosplay contest, and all I witnessed was greatness. Not only that, but I also walked away with some valuable lessons on cosplay and conventions as a whole. I’m still a novice in training who’s always eager to learn more and more about the world of cosplay and anime conventions. In many ways, this whole experience felt like a real-life anime episode—and I love it.
To say that Ocala Anime-Fest felt like a symbolic representation of a final-era moment for me would be something of an understatement. At the same time, I can’t help but feel that it truly was. Even though I anticipate other otaku events popping up in Ocala this year, I don’t know why, but I have this nagging sense that I may not see Ocala again for a while… It’s a strange and emotional feeling I can’t quite comprehend right now. As I walked outside the Hilton, I got this funny, bittersweet pang: “Well, this is it, right?” Brick City Anime Festival is coming up next year, and depending on how things go, I won’t rule out Ocala Comic Con either—but for now, I think Ocala won’t be mentioned in my journey for quite some time…
If there’s one thing Ocala Anime-Fest taught me, it’s to enjoy the feeling of investing in collectibles that are considered staples for any otaku—of course, not out of obligation, but out of genuine happiness and desire. Ever since I started my cosplay journey at Samurai Hibachi and Ramen, I’ve carried this toxic mindset of not spending on anything except cosplay and cons because of savings concerns. But after Ocala Anime-Fest, I feel like my mentality has brightened up a bit. Now I realize that, depending on the situation and my finances, it’s completely okay to shop for the goodies you truly want. Imagine if I never bought the merchandise I’ve always desired—I think I would have walked out feeling intense regret… Ocala Anime-Fest showed me that investing in collectibles is a true piece of art that looks amazing when done thoughtfully. That’s exactly why I bought those four items I’ve wanted for a while, and boy, am I glad I did.
Ocala Anime-Fest also reinforced a narrative I’ve always believed needs to be debunked: the true importance of small anime conventions. I’ve noticed that many people don’t appreciate small cons and often dismiss them as a waste of time, money, and travel—which I think is completely wrong. Small anime cons exist to foster genuine community: participating in panels, meeting niche guests, connecting with fellow cosplayers and vendors, making new friends, reuniting with familiar faces, and discovering rare merchandise you can’t even find on the internet. At the same time, the journey itself can be a joy because you get to explore places you’ve never visited before. Of course, this rings especially true in Florida, though I’m not sure how it plays out in other regions. Either way, I’m incredibly glad I attended. All I can say is: Ocala Anime-Fest was amazing. It absolutely rocked, and I’m thrilled to have experienced such an incredible anime convention!
Thank you SO much Ocala Anime-Fest, and, once again, I would like to say thank you to OurCons as well for this amazing experience! I hope Ocala Anime-Fest returns later again this year, or the next year!
Thank you for reading my article! Did you attend Ocala Anime-Fest 2026 this year? Did you happen to encounter me by accident without knowing it? How was your time at the con? Let me know in the comments!
Overall: A-rank
“Florida’s #1 Akiba-Kei!”
