Ocala Anime-Fest 2026 Review

The third anime convention of the year was filled with an unexpected twist—one that raised my expectations even higher in an area I’m already very familiar with!

By the time I publish this article, there’s one thing I can definitely tell you: I’m already very familiar with the city of Ocala as a whole. It all started way back with Ocala Comic Con in 2023. Since then, I’ve attended at least four events there in total—and five if we’re counting repeat yearly ones. So what is this anime convention I’m talking about? Well, it’s Ocala Anime-Fest, another anime con from OurCons—the same awesome group behind Sarasota Anime-Fest, which I attended (the second one) on December 6, 2025. Held at the Hilton Hotel in Ocala, this was my second time visiting that hotel, with the previous visit being for OGPokeCards (OG Con) on August 30 of last year. Not only that, but I was also pleased to cosplay as Kaito from Vocaloid—my first brand-new cosplay since Len Kagamine’s for Sarasota Anime-Fest. So far, he’s been the best and my favorite to cosplay! I can’t wait for more cosplay in the future!

Ocala Anime-Fest 2026 came out of nowhere! Just as I was about to finalize my entire calendar for my 2026 anime convention plans in 2025, it suddenly popped up, bringing me a ton of great excitement. Hilariously, though, right after I moved my base from Ocala to Tampa, Ocala starts lighting up my otaku radar again—after a few years of barely anything happening there except Ocala Comic Con and Brick City Anime Festival (both of which I’ve already attended). Nonetheless, I was utterly pleased to learn that the Horse Capital of the World now has another anime con to check out.

Another interesting part is that this year marked the first inauguration of Ocala Anime-Fest. This anime con in Ocala is completely brand new and still so young. So just knowing that I was able to attend its very first year gives me yet another cherished memory and another personal achievement that I’m really happy to have experienced. So, how did this newcomer do? What great magic did this anime con have in store for me?

SSAS+ Toracon 2026 Review

What was my first anime convention of this year would turn out to be the only one at this event’s small and humble finale.

Following the successful Brick City Anime Festival 2026 weeks earlier, I was obviously eager to continue my anime convention journey for the year. Before I discovered SSAS+’s Toracon in late 2025, I was always checking animecons.com to see if any new anime cons in Florida would pop up—and sure enough, one did. This humble convention, despite having run for 15 years, was one I shamefully never knew existed. After learning, it was held in Sarasota—a city I was already familiar with from my previous time at Sarasota Anime-Fest 2025—I knew my chance to attend Toracon was all but cemented. Once it concluded, SSAS+ Toracon became my second anime convention of 2026. It was also my first free convention ever and one of the few free ones this year. My choice of cosplay? None other than the original one: Tobi! My good boy deserved to attend his first anime convention, and at long last, he did!

SSAS+Toracon is an anime convention located in Sarasota and hosted at the Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences charter school. It was first inaugurated in 2012 and ran for fifteen years, with 2026 marking its final edition. It is highly likely that no future events from SSAS+Toracon will happen anymore. Unlike previous years, the con was admission-free in 2026 and lasted only three hours. Toracon is notable for its family-oriented theme and popularity among children—particularly elementary and middle schoolers—but despite that, it remains an all-ages anime convention open to everyone. This simple fact makes Toracon the smallest and shortest anime convention of 2026 for me (as of right now). So, the question is, why did I travel to attend SSAS+Toracon? Well, exactly for that reason. This con had its last year ever in history, and just knowing that I, Kurai of Animangemu, got to attend Toracon’s finale—with photos, recordings, and having witnessed all the events—makes me feel proud that this otaku was able to be present at an anime con’s closing chapter. In the distant future, when some advanced civilization discovers that an anime convention called SSAS+Toracon once existed, they will see that this otaku journalist’s name and brand were etched into the history books. At the same time, just remembering it fills me with overwhelming sadness. Toracon wasn’t just a con; it gave me my first real taste of “con crash” in the history of my otaku life—something beyond the usual anime, manga, and video game consumerist world. In other words, this was a truly revolutionary moment for me…

SSAS+Toracon 2026 had a lot of great things. However, you’re probably wondering: How did this anime con, despite its small size and short three-hour run, manage to rock the fun for me?

Google Trends: Ranking The 10 Provinces in Canada That Identify As Otaku From Least to Most 10-1

If any of you follow me by now, I’m sure most of you—if not all of you—have read my article about which state in America identifies as the most otaku, from least to most, courtesy of Google Trends. In that article, I not only included basic information about the states and their landscape of otaku life (such as anime conventions, shops, etc.), but also detailed what life would be like for an otaku there. It was done through a quick yet in-depth analysis. The reception to these five articles that I published? Well…

They were critically acclaimed, and I’d argue these articles are what kick-started the growth for Animangemu. I received a wave of interest from fellow otakus in all 50 states. Some were dying to know who would be number one, or if California or Texas is better, or how the heck Florida ended up only at (insert rank). Because of this, I’ve also received interest from fellow otakus around the world—Europe, Latin America, Asia, etc.—to publish an article exactly like this. My fellow otakus around the world, as you all know, I work tirelessly to bring you the best content for the otaku life. Indeed I am, but believe me when I tell you: making articles like these IS NOT EASY!!! Of course, I sincerely hope to deliver them to you as soon as possible! Time after time, I would like to work on these types of articles more. So, who am I starting with? None other than our fellow northern neighbors, Canada! Like in America and the rest of the world, the popularity of anime and manga has grown significantly in Canada. In fact, check this out! Did you know that Canadian otaku life gave birth to many famous phenomena that are important in the anime and manga community?

First, Canada is known for dubbing many iconic anime in English dubs that became well known: Death Note, Inuyasha, and yes, Dragon Ball! That’s right—WAY before the Funimation dub. Numerous Canadian cartoons were inspired by Japanese anime, and some are even well known here in America. Canada is also home to well-known iconic anime conventions that even industry professionals from Japan and America attend. Anime and manga have enjoyed significant growth in Canada. Like many nations around the world, Canada had its first exposure to anime and manga in the 1960s and 1970s. However, it was not until the 1980s and 1990s that anime and manga began to build a massive stronghold in Canada, thanks to television networks. In the 2000s, the popularity of anime and manga experienced an unprecedented explosion in the country, all in part due to the rise of the internet and dedicated online communities. In the 2010s, the popularity continued strongly through the rise of social media and streaming services. Today, it’s stronger than ever, and like everywhere else in the world, the otaku life is thriving. The question is: which province is the most passionate?

In my previous article for America, I used Google Trends to see which state searches for anime the most, and the results were interesting. However, this time I wanted to see which province identifies most as otaku by simply checking which one looks up the definition the most. Not only that, but I will also be using sources and research to back up and explain why each province is ranked where it is. Now, for Canada, this list—unlike the previous one for the states in America—makes a lot more sense, and some of the provinces you will see ranked will probably surprise you. Also, unlike my previous article on the same topic which required five separate articles for all 50 states, I will be able to do the entire article in one go thanks to Canada having just ten provinces. That way, readers won’t be turned off by the horrific TL;DR issue of scrolling through a long page full of nothing but text, and instead can enjoy reading the article with a moderate amount of reading while waiting in anticipation for the next one on the same topic. Without further ado, let’s get started!

Samurai Hibachi & Ramen Review (Birthday Special)

Ever since I’ve fallen in love with The Land of The Rising Sun, Japan has become an important part of my life. Ranging from many great things that the Japanese have invented. Anime, manga, video games, toys & games, tokusatsu, books, otaku culture niches, and other stuff like music, automobiles, inventions, technology, innovations, culture and history, athletes, language, and so much more… So, of course, what else would be on my passionate love affair for Japan? Obviously…

Food… Aka, cuisine. For my entire life, despite spending so much time investing my interests in Japan, I’ve never got to taste authentic Japanese cuisine. In fact, I’ve never even tried out or ever got the chance to eat any Japanese food whatsoever. Even when I had the chance to, such desires never materialized. The void of never trying out Japanese cuisine remained a strong enigma for me, for practically most of my otaku life since I first became one back in 2011…

Finally, that would change at long last when I visited an amazing and awesome restaurant by the name of Samurai Hibachi & Ramen. This Japanese restaurant is located in Ocala, Florida. Oh, and guess what? This restaurant isn’t just some ordinary restaurant, it’s a Japanese restaurant that brings out the authentic Japanese feel. Not only that, but also brings out an otaku feel that even I was not expecting. This restaurant isn’t just “some restaurant”, It’s magical, and for any otaku in Florida, this is a must-visit, and I’ll tell you exactly why in this review.

Also, please enjoy my historic reveal of my cosplay, which I’ve been planning to do for ages now. (R.I.P. Anonymous Kurai: 2021-2025) Heheheh!!!

OG Con 2025 Review

Since the turn of the 21st century, the Pokémon franchise has been arguably the most successful franchise in history. No other media franchise comes even close to matching the financial value and popularity like Pokémon. The Japanese video game giant has become a force to be reckoned with, in not only the video game world but entertainment in general. Since it’s faithful launch with the Red and Green installments back in 1996 in Japan, and followed by its 1998 release with Red and Blue in America, Pokémon has waltzed into literally every spec of the corner when it comes to entertainment. Beloved by both children and adults, Pokémon is so popular that you can literally find it anywhere. The TCG is no exception. In fact, I’d argue that the Pokémon Trading Card game is possibly the most popular collectible in the world as well as the most demanded and most profitable in the world of trading cards… Yes, even rivaling other industries like sports cards… This amazing event here… It is a prime example.

Here in Ocala, Florida, an amazing event happened today at the Hilton Hotel. That event was called, OG Con. An event dedicated to all things Pokémon. Specifically revolving around the Pokémon TCG. Of course, there were some other goodies available as well. In which you will see when you read this article. Today, I am here to review an amazing event that I enjoyed so much, and was amazed to see what was in store. The cards, merchandise, passion, fun stuff, vendors, and many other great and amazing things that happened at OG Con. This was an event that was truly needed for a city like Ocala.
